Shipments of desktops, notebooks, and workstations in Latin America fell 6% YOy to 5 million units in the second quarter of 2022, Canalys reported today.

After experiencing the impact of the pandemic, desktop shipments are now stabilizing at 840,000 units, making them the best-performing category in the region, according to the report. Notebook shipments fell 7 percent to 4.2 million units. High inflation has put Latin America in a tough spot, with consumer spending plunging and tablet shipments down 30 percent to 1.4 million.

Lenovo is number one in the desktop and laptop market in Latin America, according to Canalys. The manufacturer's shipments fell 12 percent, mainly due to lower consumer demand. HP suffered a similar struggle, with shipments falling 15 per cent to 1m units. Dell, relying on its strength in the business market, was the only major vendor to post growth, with shipments up 7 percent to take third place. Acer and Asustek rounded out the top five with declines of 9 per cent and 8 per cent respectively.

In terms of tablets, Lenovo shipped 438,000 tablets in Latin America, up a modest 2 percent to take the top spot. Second-place Samsung and third-place Apple saw shipments fall slightly by 2 percent and 1 percent, respectively. Multilaser struggled in the second quarter, falling 17 per cent to take fourth place. TCL remained in fifth place despite a sharp 81 per cent drop in shipments.
