Recently, Qualcomm officially launched the second-generation Snapdragon 8 platform, bringing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with stronger performance. Coincidentally, some time ago, Mediatek released the Breguet 9200, which also greatly improved the performance, and both GPuIs support hardware-level optical pursuit technology, but from the running score results, despite the performance increase, these two chips still have a large distance from the A16.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 model is SM8550-AB and is built using TSMC's 4nm technology. Officials say that compared with the first generation Snapdragon 8, the second generation Snapdragon 8 has 35% CPU performance improvement and 40% energy efficiency improvement. In terms of GPU, the Adreno GPU powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 also brings ray tracking technology, with 25% performance improvement and 45% energy efficiency improvement.

The Breguet 9200 integrates 17 billion transistors, making it the first processor in the industry to adopt TSMC's second generation 4nm technology. It uses a 3.05GHz X3 super-large core, three A715 mega-cores of 2.85GHz and four A510 mini-cores of 1.8GHz to form a three-cluster architecture design.

Breguet 9200 adopts Immortalis-G715 MC11 GPU. Officially, compared with the previous Breguet 9000 in GeekBench 5, Breguet 9200 has a 12% improvement in CPU single-core performance, a 10% improvement in multi-core performance, and a 10% increase in heat dissipation capacity. Power consumption is reduced by 25% for the same performance.

According to the official data, these two chips have indeed improved a lot, not only in terms of performance, but also in terms of power consumption, which has been plaguing Android users for a long time. Even so, the chips failed to outscore Apple's latest A16 chip this year.

The A16 chip is built using TSMC N4P's third-generation 5nm process and offers some relatively modest performance improvements. Compared to the original 5nm. N5” Manufacturing process, N4P? It provides an 11 percent performance increase, a 22 percent energy efficiency increase and a 6 percent density increase.

The A16 will increase the number of transistors from 15 billion to 18-20 billion, while its CPU speed may be increased by 15%.

In addition, the A16 bionic chip is made up of two high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores of the 6-core central processing unit (CPU) to bring the speed up to 40%, the accelerated 5-core image processor, memory bandwidth increased by up to 50%, extremely suitable for running graphics-intensive games and apps. With a new 16-core neural network engine capable of up to 17 quadrillion operations per second, the chip offers higher performance with minimal power consumption.

Compared with the previous generation, A16 is not a big upgrade, even in terms of energy efficiency ratio there is a regression, but the number of transistors is still far more than Mediatek Breguet 9200, while Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is not clear about the specific number of transistors.

In GeekBench 5 scores, Breguet 9200 single-core scored 1,424 points and multicore scored 4,471 points, which is a big improvement over the previous Breguet 9000, but the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 single-core scored 1,483 points and multicore scored 4,709 points. There's not much of a gap between the two, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 still has a big lead over the Breguet 9200 when it comes to multi-core.

While the Breguet 9200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are excellent, they're still not good enough for the A16.

A16 on GeekBench? In the 5, it scored 1,874 points for single core and 5,372 points for multi-core. Both single-core and dual-core are much higher than the Breguet 9200 and Snapdragon 8. Gen? 2. Even the iPhone? 13? Pro and iPhone? The A15 chip on the 14 standard Edition scored 1709 points, indicating that Qualcomm and Mediatek still have A long way to go to surpass Apple's A-Series in CPU performance.

But don't despair. Both the Breguet 9200 and the Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 feature huge GPU upgrades,In particular, the Breguet 9200's GPU ran at 66.4 frames in GFXBench 5.0, a significant improvement from the A16's 53.3 frames and the A15's 53.6 frames.

Both the Breguet 9200 and the Qualcomm 8 Gen 2 will support hardware level optical pursuit technology, and the exploration of the GPU will bring a better user experience for Android users. But that doesn't mean you should ignore the differences in CPU performance between Android and Apple. To catch up, you'll have to keep digging.
