According to the latest data from market research firm Omdia, Sony continues to be the leader in the global image sensor (CIS) market, with sales of $2.442 billion in the third quarter of 2022, accounting for 51.6% of the market. Samsung is not far behind, but with a share of only 15.6%, less than Sony 1ther 3.
The third to fifth places are Howie Technology, on Semiconductor and Geke Microelectronics, with a market share of 9.7%, 7% and 4%, respectively.
Samsung, which had 29% of the CIS market share in 2021, halved to 15.6% just a year later.Sony continues to expand its market share because of successive orders for models such as the Xiaomi 12s Ultra. The latest Xiaomi 13 Pro continues the highly acclaimed Leica image on the Xiaomi 12s Ultra and uses Sony's latest IMX 989 sensor.
Considering that Apple's iPhone 15 series will also use Sony CIS, Sony will further widen the gap with second place in 2023.
