On October 6, 2022, led by the Institute of Deep Ocean Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and composed of 56 members from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University and other universities, the hadal research team set sail from Sanya to the Kermadec Trench and completed two sections of the expedition.
The third leg of abyssal exploration in the Tiamendina Trench is currently under way,To systematically observe and study the geological, environmental and biological processes at the bottom of the Tiamartina Trench.
This is the first time that the "Striver" all-ocean deep manned submersible has arrived in the southeast Indian Ocean since it was put into operation.
By January 22, the manned submersible "Striver" had made 159 dives, including 25 dives of 10,000-meter class. The Striver will continue to perform 22 dives in the area and is scheduled to return to Sanya in early March.
The Tiamantina Trench is the second deepest in the Indian Ocean, located 1,125 kilometers west-southwest of Perth, Australia.
