Sina technology news Beijing time on February 20 morning news, it is reported that Amazon requires employees to work at least three days a week in the office, canceling the previous policy of senior management to decide such work.

In a memo to employees posted on the company's blog, Andy Jassy, Amazon's chief executive, said the rule would take effect on May 1. Jassy says there will be exceptions, including some sales and customer support jobs, "but that will be a small minority.

"When team members meet more often, they tend to bond more," Jassy says. It's very rewarding to be face to face with your colleagues and look them in the eye and see them completely immersed in what you're talking about that binds people together."

Amazon, the second-largest private employer in the United States after Wal-Mart, is one of many companies that require workers to show up more frequently. These companies are cutting back on some of the workanywhere flexibility offered during the pandemic. Apple Inc, Alphabet Inc and Microsoft Corp now require employees to stay in the office at least a few days a week.

Amazon said in October 2021 that managers could determine how often employees needed to be in the office. Since then, employees say, attendance has been spotty. The headquarters campus in downtown Seattle is sometimes bustling and sometimes a ghost town. Some employees, especially those in scattered teams, have to work in the office a few days a week, while others have barely worked in the office since the start of the pandemic. An Amazon spokeswoman declined to say how many employees were on duty.

Bringing back large numbers of employees could boost the business districts around Amazon. In addition to being by far the largest employer in troubled downtown Seattle, Amazon is also a major office tenant in cities such as the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Austin, Texas, and the Los Angeles area.

"Our community is important to us and we can further play a role in helping them recover from the challenges of the last few years, and we are happy to do so," Jassy said.
