In terms of hardware, the AMD RX 7900 series all use the RDNA 3 architecture and still use Taiwan Semiconductor 5nm chips, with a main graphics computing module and six memory cache modules.

Not only that, AMD has made many underlying changes to the architecture of RDNA 3, including cramping in more computing units and more shaders.

According to the official information, this generation of AMD has taken power consumption to the extreme, and the performance per watt has increased by 50% compared to the previous generation. This strategy is different from Nvidia's power-for-performance strategy. Nvidia's huge power consumption has made many players feel ashamed, while AMD's power consumption improvement is more in line with players' expectations.

AMD didn't follow Nvidia's lead when it came to power interfaces, but continued to use the 8-PIN interface. The RX 7900XTX has a TDP of 355W and the RX 7900XT has a TDP of 300W, slightly increasing the 7900XTX compared to the 335W of the previous RX 6950 XT, but the 7900XT achieves a decrease in power consumption.

AMD has two versions of the Navi 31 GPU. The higher spec is the RX 7900 XTX, which is equipped with a full GCD and six MCDS. The RX 7900 XT is also equipped with a full computing unit, but only uses 84 of the 96 and five MCDS.

AMD is physically shielding all six cores, which means you can't turn them on to boost performance, since they don't have 4GB of DDR6 memory to spare.

The RX 7900 XT has 12.5% fewer stream processors than the RX 7900 XTX, but the performance gap between the two is much higher, leading some to believe that the data is abnormal. And this is only OpenCL's run score data, there is no Vulkan run score data that can reflect the game performance, so the value of participation is not high.

In the press release, AMD officials claimed that the RX 7900 XT has a 16 percent computing advantage over the RTX 4080 and is $200 cheaper.

But when tested after the launch, the AMD RX 7900 XT's OpenCL score trailed the RX 7900 XTX by 16%, and against Nvidia's latest RTX 40 series graphics card, it trailed the RTX 4080 by about 23%, barely closing in on the RTX 3080 Ti. Such a result for the user, belongs to is unacceptable.

In actual game testing, the RX 7900 XT trailed the RTX 4080 in terms of base game performance. Instead of matching the RTX 4080 as advertised, the RX 7900 XTX beat the RTX 4080 back and forth, with a lead of only 10% at most. The actual performance appears to be somewhat awkward.

The price cut is also very consistent with AMD's practice, can not beat the price cut. But the RX 7900 XT was originally a good quality game, but in the early promotion of AMD exaggerations caused it to attract bad reviews, and later unreasonable specifications let it lost the road. So far, it seems that this generation of graphics cards is indeed seeing a wave of price increases.
