On March 4, the Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon suspended construction of a large-scale corporate real estate project it called its second headquarters near Washington, D.C., after the company took extensive cost-cutting measures, including thousands of layoffs. Amazon said it would suspend work on the second phase of its Arlington, Va., campus after it pledged to spend $2.5 billion to create more than 25,000 jobs in the area by the end of 2030. The company said it had not set a new start date for the second phase. "We have enough space now that there is really no need to start construction," Amazon spokesman Zach Goldsztejn said. "
