Game developer Yuji Nakasaki, known as the "Father of Sonic," and former Square Enix employee Taisuke Sasaki were formally charged late last year after being arrested on suspicion of insider trading.

According to the latest report of NHK, Nakaji pleaded guilty in the first trial of the case.

As IT Home previously reported, the Tokyo District Prosecutor's Office has determined that Nakatyuji had confidential information about Square's plans to develop a Final Fantasy spin-off title, Final Fantasy VII First Warrior, with mobile developer ATeam Entertainment.

Using this information, the two men bought nearly 91,000 shares and 120,000 shares of Ateam in advance, and Sasaki not only bought a lot of shares himself, but also told another acquaintance that the two companies would be working together. This acquaintance also bought nearly 10,000 shares of Ateam for 11.8 million yen.

Japanese police arrested three people, including Mr Nakamoto, in November 2022, all accusing them of insider trading. In December 2022, Nakamoto was arrested again in connection with another insider trading case.

At the time of the first arrest, Square Enix had publicly pledged to cooperate with authorities on the matter. "We deeply regret that this has caused great concern to all concerned. We have dealt with the incident rigorously, including taking internal disciplinary action against the alleged employee."
