The Wii U is powered by an eMMC flash memory chip from Toshiba and Samsung, and it has been more than a decade since the first units went on sale.

Generally speaking, the life of eMMC chips is about 5 years, especially if the equipment is not used for a long time, it is easy to fail and cannot be used.

In fact,Wii U users reported similar glitches as far back as 2015, but the failure rate has increased significantly recently.

The Wii U has been out of service for years, and the online store will no longer support buying games, new content and in-app purchases on March 28.

I don't know if Nintendo will provide a solution for the bricked Wii U, or just leave it at that.
