According to the source of the supply chain @ Mobile Chip Talent,Apple has begun to design its own Panel-driven IC chip, starting with the OLED driver IC, which will be mass-produced in 2024.

Driving IC is an important chip for display equipment, which can be understood as the main control chip of the display, which integrates resistors, regulators, comparators and power transistors, and controls the key factors such as luminance, power and electromagnetic compatibility of the display panel, so as to ensure the uniformity and stability of the display screen.

In the past two years, this is also one of the chips with tight global production capacity and rising prices, especially the next key development of OLED and mini LED display panels, driving IC is also becoming more and more important.

However, the annual output value of driving IC chips is not very high, and it is estimated that the size of China's market in 2022 will be just over 40 billion.Apple is not simply saving money (or even more expensive) to make this kind of chip.It is more important to create differentiation and improve the competitiveness of their own products.
