As we all know, in the upper reaches of the chip industry, there is a kind of software called "the mother of chips", and some people call it "the crown of chip design", that is EDA software.
The function of EDA software is not only to design chips, but also to integrate chip design, comprehensive verification, physical design, simulation, testing and so on.
Without EDA, how do hundreds of transistors on a chip be arranged, wired, and then pre-verified, simulated, and tested? It can be said that without this thing, chip design companies are unable to move forward.
In the field of EDA, the US giants Synopsys and Cadence,Siemens EDA (based in the US and acquired by Siemens) have about 80 per cent of the global share. In the Chinese market, the three major enterprises have won about 90% of the market.
Obviously, in this case, domestic chip manufacturers are stuck by foreign EDA, so domestic EDA software manufacturers have been working hard to the whole process, advanced technology, in order to replace foreign EDA, especially the three giants of the United States.
Recently, a domestic EDA manufacturer said that the key EDA products developed by the company have supported advanced process nodes such as 7nm/5nm/3nm and process routes such as FinFET and FD-SOI, and are competitive in the international market.
This manufacturer is Kanlun Electronics, and it is also the second EDA manufacturer in China to support the 3nm process. The first one is Huada Jiutian.
At present, Camelon Electronics has many partners, and nine of the top 10 wafer generation factories in the world cooperate with it, including TSMC, Samsung Electronics, United Power, Lattice Core, SMIC, Huahong and so on.
Then the problem comes, with the EDA of Kanlun Electronics, but also reached 3nm, then we still need foreign EDA products? At present, it is still needed and cannot be replaced entirely.
As mentioned earlier, the current EDA is not only a design, but also comprehensive verification, physical design, simulation, testing and other links, an enterprise is basically unlikely to be able to handle the whole process.
The same is true of Guanlun Electronics, whose EDA products are only engaged in a very small part of the field, and only achieve autonomous controllability and a strong moat in some subdivided areas, but have not yet realized the autonomous controllability of EDA in the whole field.
Of course, any product comes step by step, with Prosperity Electronics, Huada Nine days, and many other domestic EDA manufacturers. We all work together to believe that in the future, we will certainly be able to achieve self-control in the whole process and in the whole field, and reach the international advanced level. At that time, we will be able to achieve comprehensive domestic substitution.
Especially now, with the arrival of the golden era of domestic substitution for the semiconductor industry, this kind of domestic manufacturers with technology and strength will certainly usher in a broader prospect.
