On March 15, MacRumors reported,All models of Apple's iPhone 15 series are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X70 5G baseband, which can't catch up with Apple's own 5G modems,That's because Apple could launch its own 5G baseband as soon as 2024, starting with the iPhone SE 4.
The Snapdragon X70, Qualcomm's fifth-generation modem and RF system, is known to have achieved impressive results in two situations:The peak rate of the downlink is close to 10Gbps, and the peak rate of the uplink is 3.5Gbps.
Moreover, Snapdragon X70 supports all 5G commercial bands ranging from 600MHz to 41GHz, making it the most complete 5G modem and RF system family at present. The X70 also offers the world's first downlink 4 carrier aggregation, millimeter wave, and sub-6 GHZ aggregation across the TDD and FDD spectrum with strong bandwidth support and spectrum aggregation capabilities.
Since the Snapdragon X70 also introduces millimeter wave stand-alone networking capabilities, mobile network operators (MNO) and vertical industry service providers can deploy fixed wireless access and enterprise 5G networks without using the Sub-6GHz spectrum.
In addition, Snapdragon X70 also introduces the world's first 5G AI processor, including Qualcomm 5G AI Toolkit, Qualcomm 5G Ultra-low Delay toolkit, third-generation Qualcomm 5G PowerSave, millimeter wave 5G link, Sub-6GHz quad-carrier aggregation, etc.
It's worth noting that the iPhone 15 series may be the last phones from Apple to use Qualcomm baseband chips entirely. Mark Gurman revealed that Apple will completely get rid of Qualcomm and use its own 5G baseband within three years.
