If you want to install a computer with almost the same configuration today, does it feel much more expensive than it was three years ago?
In fact, this is not an illusion.
MindFactory, a German e-commerce company, recently compared the average price of the Intel/AMD platform motherboard sold in November 2020 and March 2023, and the results were very touching.
Three years ago, the average price of the motherboard of the AMD chipset sold was about 120.5 euros; the Intel was 140.78 euros.
In the week that ended in March this year, the average price of the motherboard of the AMD chipset reached 163euros, and 197euros on the Intel side, up 35 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.
How exaggerated is this number?
We take into account the monetary factor, that is, inflation. From 1997 to 2023, the average inflation rate in Europe was 1.95%.Even factoring in the highest 9.9 per cent in 2022, AMD/Intel motherboard prices outperformed regional inflation by 10 to 16 percentage points.
