Sofsoft recently disclosed the salary of its employees in a work visa application. The top salary for a Microsoft software engineer is $288,000, while the top salary for a hardware engineer is $239,000, according to the document.

Microsoft does not disclose its employees' salaries, but the information was disclosed in a recent work visa application filed with the Office of Foreign Worker Certification. In 2022, Microsoft software engineers earned between $94,000 and $288,000 a year, while hardware engineers earned between $115,000 and $239,000, according to the filing.

It should be noted that these compensation packages do not include stock awards given to employees. Still, it's a valuable guide to how much a variety of jobs at Microsoft pay.

The figures also highlight how Microsoft was paying top dollar to compete for talent before the tech industry entered a historic downturn. Of course, the numbers may vary in coming quarters as tech giants rein in spending.

Earlier this year, Microsoft began cutting employee compensation by as much as 30 percent. In addition, Microsoft announced in January that it would cut 10,000 jobs by March in the face of a wave of layoffs in the tech industry, and some key investment areas have not been spared.
