May 19, 2014 -- Apple released an update to iOS/iPad OS16 and 15 early this morning that addresses bugs and improves device security.
Let's start with iOS/iPadOS 15.7.6 (internal version: 19H349). There is no new feature added, which is to fix two WebKit security vulnerabilities that have been proven to be exploited by hackers.
Also released was iOS/iPadOS 16.5 (internal version: 20F66), which has more than 14 bug fixes.
According to Apple, if you don't update these exploits, hackers can use them to access your contacts and other information from the lock screen.
In the face of such a serious security vulnerability, Apple is also urging all iPhone and iPad users, as long as the device meets the upgrade conditions, or the first time to upgrade.
Finally, iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 are likely to be some of the last updates we'll get for the iOS 16 operating system, as Apple's transition to iOS 17 begins to wind down. iOS 17 will launch at WWDC in June.
