MacRumors reports that Apple plans to unveil its first mixed Reality device, likely to be called the Apple Reality Pro, at WWDC in June,It costs about $1,500 to make.
The report noted thatApple's mixed reality device features a new MicroLED screen that costs between $280 and $320, making it the most expensive component of the device.
Compared with traditional LCD and OLED screens, MicroLED screens have low power consumption, high brightness, ultra-high resolution and color saturation, while maintaining faster response, longer service life and higher efficiency.
But making MicroLED screens commercially available on a large scale remains a challenge at this stage. Mass production, yield are problems, and high manufacturing costs.
Next came 14 camera modules, which cost $160, then the M-Series chips and image signal processors, which cost between $120 and $140, with an estimated assembly cost of $110 to $120,The total BOM cost is between $1290 and $1300, and the total cost is about $1500 if shipping is included.
Mark Gurman says Apple is spending more than $1 billion a year to develop the device. Apple originally planned to sell the device at a loss, but now plans to sell it at a cost, with profit margins far lower than other Apple products.
