Snapdragon 8G5 on 1.8nm technology? Qualcomm said it was willing to use Intel for contract manufacturing

Intel will soon catch up in the field of advanced technology OEM. The company's roadmap of mastering 5-generation advanced technology in 4 years is progressing, and 20A and 18A technology will be mass-produced in 2024, which is equivalent to the 2nm and 1.8nm processes of AIA.

Intel's goal is to regain its position as a semiconductor process leader by 2025,The 1.8nm technology is expected to be introduced in the second half of 2024 and will compete with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and Samsung in the contract manufacturing market.

In this regard, Intel has already struck a deal with ARM to optimize its processors based on the 1.8nm process. Although the exact product is uncertain, Intel has already secured the ticket for advanced process mobile processors.

There's no word on which chip companies are interested in 1.8-nm ARM chips, but Qualcomm is clearly one of the most likely candidates, with CEO Ammon saying recently that more foundries are needed, especially for advanced processes.

Ammon said that if Intel is willing to do wafer manufacturing and they do it well, Qualcomm would support that, and if they can still come up with a competitive product, Qualcomm would consider using Intel.

But Ammon also stressed that it does not currently have any products manufactured by Intel, and that in terms of advanced technology,If Intel can compete with Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor, Qualcomm will consider all three.

From Qualcomm's statement, they are happy to see Intel compete with TSMC and Samsung in advanced technology. As for whether to use Intel's competitiveness, after all, the performance of 1.8nm technology still needs more data to prove.

Assuming Intel's 1.8nm process goes into mass production as scheduled in the second half of next year,But it's not going to catch up with the Snapdragon 8G4, at least not until the Snapdragon 8G5 generation, 2025 products, if the mass production is not smooth, even 2026 Snapdragon 8G6 to play, anyway is not urgent.
