Washington state has filed a lawsuit against Google after users discovered last year that they could be tracked even after disabling Android tracking.
In its lawsuit, Washington State says,Google continues to collect location data from its users even after they have turned off the "location history" option in their account Settings.
Recently, the lawsuit came to a close,Google will pay a $39.9 million penalty to the state of Washington as it seeks a settlement.
In addition to the fine, as part of the settlement, Google must show users additional prompts when they turn on or off location Settings in their accounts.
At the same time,Google must show users information related to location tracking and provide more details about the type and purpose of location data it collects.
In response, Ferguson's office said Google is profiting from deceiving Washington consumers about their privacy choices by taking away their ability to choose whether companies can track their sensitive location data.
