May 22 - Apple is a god in the Japanese smartphone market.
According to the latest report by Japanese Research Institute MM Research Institute, Apple's iPhone showed a bright performance during the statistical period from April 2022 to March 2023. Although sales also declined, the market share of Apple's iPhone exceeded 50% for the first time in 6 years.
With smartphone shipments in Japan down about 10 percent over the past year (29.851,000 units shipped, 11.8 percent less than a year earlier), other Android vendors have little chance of staying the course.
By brand, Apple shipped 15.038 million iphones, down 10.7% year on year, but increased its market share to 50.4%. Sharp ranked second to sixth by 10.8 percent, SONY 8.2 percent, Samsung 8.2 percent, Fujitsu 8.0 percent, and Google Pixel 4.6 percent.
The report attributed Apple's continued success to carriers aggressively promoting their smartphones in promotions, and the decline in iPhone sales in the quarter was attributed to a weaker yen, global inflation, and the end of iPhone sales at retailers.
The report also points out that Apple remains dominant in Japan, and Android has no way to compete with it.
