Marvell, a major US chip designer, has announced the establishment of a chip research and development center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, by upgrading its subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
According to the report, the Vietnam subsidiary of Marvell currently has about 300 employees, 97% of whom are engineers. Through this upgrade, Marvell Vietnam R & D Center will become the four major R & D centers of Marvell Group in the world, together with R & D centers in the United States, India and Israel.
It is reported that Marvell Vietnam Research and Development Center will focus on the development and research of the most advanced integrated circuit technology, and will also serve as a place for Vietnamese technical engineers to hone their professional skills. Marvell is committed to attracting outstanding technical personnel to the center and contributing to employment opportunities, career development and the development of a high-value microchip ecosystem in Vietnam.
In order to meet the talent needs of the design center, Marvell plans to invest in the development of basic technical skills of talents in Vietnam through the newly established Marvell Excellence Scholarship Program in Vietnam. The program will support talented students to pursue degrees in engineering and computer science at selected universities in Vietnam.
In addition, through the Marvell Scholarship Program, the company hopes to increase the representation of the female workforce at all levels and roles, and to increase diversity by recruiting from low-income communities.
Dr. Loi Nguyen, Executive Vice President of Marvell Optical and Copper Connectivity Group, said: "one of the major challenges for the global semiconductor industry is the shortage of research and engineering, which is a huge opportunity for aspiring Vietnamese scientific and technological talent. The establishment of a Marvel R & D center in Vietnam is an important step in bridging this talent gap and promoting the development of Vietnam's semiconductor industry. "
Dr. Nguyen added, "Marvell is committed to attracting the best and brightest engineering talent to its semiconductor design center in Vietnam and adding high-value semiconductor jobs, careers and ecosystems in the country."
Data show that Marvell was founded in 1995, headquartered in Silicon Valley, with R & D centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu and Beijing, China, is a leading global semiconductor manufacturer providing a full range of broadband communication and storage solutions, engaged in the design, development and supply of mixed signal and digital signal processing integrated circuits for the storage and broadband data network markets. According to the revenue ranking report of the top ten IC design companies in the world in the fourth quarter of 2022 released by TrendForce Jibang Consulting, Maisan ranks sixth in the world.
It is worth mentioning that Marvell once set up R & D centers in Shanghai, Nanjing, Chengdu, and Beijing, of which the Shanghai R & D center once had more than 800 R & D personnel, and it is also the third largest R & D center outside the US headquarters and Israel, but Mavell announced in October last year that it had laid off most of its Chinese R & D team, and in March this year, it was revealed that further layoffs were made, and all Chinese R & D teams were laid off, with no one left.
