[introduction] generative AI grows savagely, and calls for industry norms follow. On May 22nd, three co-founders of ChatGPT developer OpenAI co-wrote about super-smart governance, and within 24 hours, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google's parent company Alphabet, also wrote publicly about Google's idea and practice of building a sense of responsibility for AI.

This year, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has attracted worldwide attention. Today, thousands of people use AI to increase creativity and productivity. At the same time, more and more start-ups and organizations are bringing AI products and technologies to market faster than ever before.
AI is the most esoteric technology that human beings are studying today. it will touch every industry, as well as all aspects of people's lives. Therefore, the more people committed to advancing AI science, the more opportunities are likely to be created for various groups around the world.
Some people simply understand the current AI craze as a highly competitive AI competition. But we think it's much more than that. For more than a decade, Google has been introducing AI into its products and services and making it available to users. In addition to keeping a close eye on AI, it is more important to build AI in a responsible way so that society can use it correctly.
We mainly solve this problem from three aspects.
First of all, boldly pursue innovation and let AI benefit everyone. We will continue to use AI to significantly upgrade existing products such as Google search, Gmail, Android and Google Maps.
With these upgrades, drivers across Europe have found more fuel-efficient routes and the forecast time of flood forecasts can be advanced.

We are also committed to enabling people outside Google to use AI for innovation, including Google Cloud Services, API and Google for Startups Growth (GSG). GSG supports European entrepreneurs to use AI to benefit people's health and well-being. We are also launching a social innovation fund on AI to help social enterprises address some of Europe's most pressing challenges.
Second, we are ensuring that AI technology is developed and deployed responsibly, which highlights our strong commitment to winning the trust of our users. That's why we released the AI principles in 2018, rooted in the belief that the development of AI should benefit society while avoiding harmful applications.
Facts have also proved that we are putting these principles into practice. For example, build a "guardrail" to limit the abuse of our universal translator (Universal Translator).

Finally, realizing the potential of AI cannot be accomplished by a single company alone. As early as 2020, I shared my view that AI needs to be regulated in a way that balances innovation with potential hazards. Today, the technology is at a critical turning point, and as I return to Europe this week, I still believe that AI is too important not to be regulated, not to be regulated.
The development of a policy framework for predicting potential hazards and unlocking benefits will require in-depth discussions among governments, industry experts, publishers, academia and civil society. Legislators may not need to start from scratch: existing regulations provide a useful framework for managing the potential risks of new technologies. But it is critical to continue to invest in responsible AI research and development, which will ensure that AI is safely applied, especially as regulations are still being developed and evolved.
Strengthening international cooperation is also the key. The United States and Europe should work together to create a strong framework that supports innovation for this emerging technology based on common values and goals. We will continue to work with experts, social scientists and entrepreneurs who are setting standards for responsible AI development on both sides of the Atlantic.
