Caixin News May 24 (Editor Ma LAN)On Tuesday, Musk made two new announcements at an event about Tesla's successor as CEO and the location of Tesla's next Gigafactory.

Musk said he has submitted a list of successors to Tesla's board to ensure the company's continued operations should something happen to him.

The multi-job entrepreneur complains that he is so pressed for time that he has to set aside schedules for Tesla, Twitter and SpaceX, and that switching back and forth between the three companies is a pain.

According to speculation inside Tesla, Musk's preferred next CEO,Most likely Zachary Kirkhorn, the current chief financial officer. Zhu Xiaotong, Tesla's head of Greater China, who has been highly regarded by Musk in recent years, is also a possible candidate.

As well as his successor, Mr Musk revealed that Tesla was preparing to find a site for a new battery factory by the end of the year and said it was very interested in building one in the UK.

Earlier this year, Tesla announced it would open a gigafactory in Mexico to expand its electric vehicle supply chain and increase global production capacity.

Tesla has previously announced that it will reach the production capacity of 20 million electric vehicles a year by 2030. The current production capacity of Tesla's four factories in California, Texas, Berlin and Shanghai is about 2 million vehicles. This means that Tesla needs to expand its production capacity by nine times, and it is inevitable that Tesla will continue to build more factories to increase production capacity.

Dangle one's appetite

Mr Musk's interest in the UK comes as something of a surprise, but it does not come out of the blue for the country.

A source at the Department for Business and Trade said the UK had shown Mr Musk and Tesla everything there was to gain from having a factory in the UK, and that Britain's technical talent, infrastructure and excellent supply chain still made it a greenfield place for advanced industries to locate and grow.

Musk also made an official visit to the UK in 2021. During the visit,The government's Investment Office has urgently requested lists of 250 hectares (3,750 acres) of land for a new car factory.

At the time, a number of British mayors asked Musk to visit potential sites in their cities, but rather than delve into the future of British industry, Musk later raised concerns about the uncertainty of Brexit.

Now, though, the U.K. is apparently on the list of possible locations for Tesla's new factory, but it's not the only place Musk is apparently considering.

Also at Tuesday's event, Musk had a sentimental response to an audience question about whether India would be an interesting option:Of course. That leaves the location of new factories in doubt.

Adding to the confusion, Musk recently met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss plans for a new battery factory.

Where Tesla will build its next factory -- in India, Britain or France -- remains a mystery. However, some people analyze that Musk's remarks at this time may also be a strategy to attract the attention of the government, in order to obtain more favorable investment policies.
