Sina technology news May 24, Beijing time evening news, it is reported that Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) said Tuesday at a CEO summit held in London, before the mass layoffs of Twitter, many of the company's employees are doing something that does not have much value.
"Probably a lot of Silicon Valley companies, but maybe not as much as Twitter," Musk added. Musk further explained: "Twitter was in a situation where if you had 10 people in a meeting, only one was hitting the gas and nine were hitting the brakes, so you wouldn't get very far."
Musk also added that other big tech companies could make further cuts without affecting productivity. Musk also revealed at the summit that Twitter currently has about 1,500 employees, which is a reasonable number.
But previously, two people familiar with the matter said the number of full-time employees was actually closer to 1,000. Twitter had more than 7,500 employees at the end of 2021. But just a week after his successful acquisition of Twitter in October, Musk laid off about half of its staff. Since then, thousands more have been fired or resigned.
But Mr. Musk said on Tuesday that Twitter planned to increase its headcount again because it was moving toward positive cash flow. "With a bit of luck, we could be cash-flow positive next month," he said. At that point, we will start adding people to the company."
Musk also pointed to the fact that some hiring has already begun. Musk has hinted in media interviews that Twitter could rehire some of the people it had laid off.
