A few days ago, the International computer Association (ACM) announced that Professor Chen Haibo of Shanghai Jiaotong University was elected chairman of ACM SIGOPS for a term of two years.
This is the first time that a Chinese scholar has been elected chairman of the Special Committee (SIGs) under ACM, and it is also the first chairman from outside North America since ACM SIGOPS was founded in 1965.
SIGOPS is the operating system committee of the International computer Association (Association for Computing Machinery,ACM), which was established in 1965. It is one of the oldest and most influential committees of ACM, and most of its members are Turing Award winners.
It is worth noting thatProfessor Chen Haibo is not only a university scholar, but also the chief scientist of Huawei operating system and the director of operating system kernel laboratory.His main research interests are operating systems and parallel distributed systems. Huawei's Hongmeng OS system has him in charge of core technology decision-making and research and development.
Prior to this, he had made remarkable achievements in the field of OS systems. by the end of 2010, the number of Asian scholars who had independently published research papers at SOSP (Conference on principles of operating Systems, established in 1967) was still zero.In 2011, Professor Chen's paper was accepted by SOSP, which achieved a breakthrough in China and even Asia.

He has won the Chen Jiageng Youth Science Award (Information Technology Science Award), the China Youth Science and Technology Award, the first prize of technological invention of the Ministry of Education, the National Outstanding doctoral thesis Award, the CCF Young Scientist Award and so on.
Currently, he is the first chairman of the OpenHarmony Technical steering Committee, the vice chairman of the CCF system Software Committee, the first Chinese scholar editorial board and field co-chairman of Communications of the ACM, the flagship magazine of ACM, and the co-chairman of the ACM EuroSys 2025 Program Committee.
The research work has also won Huawei individual Award for Outstanding contribution, ASPLOS, EuroSys, VEE and other best papers, as well as DSN“ time Test Award-rdquo;, SIGMOD Research highlight Award and so on.
