The bar code that Apple etches on the iPhone display is as small as sand and can only be seen by special devices. It is reported that the iPhone 12 screen barcode is directly above the screen, and the 15 series barcode is etched on the bottom edge of the screen.
Industry sources say Apple spent millions of dollars developing a process to etch the bar code,Apple can accurately count each piece of glass produced by its suppliers Lens Technology and Biel Crystal to know how many defective screens were thrown away.
When the bar code was first applied, Apple found that as many as three-tenths of the cover glass was discarded by suppliers. Under pressure from Apple, suppliers reduced the defect rate to one-tenth, saving the company hundreds of millions of dollars.
