The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) launched an in-depth investigation into the acquisition of Israeli car chipmaker Autotalks by chip maker Qualcomm in August.
In an effort to allay potential concerns about the deal, Qualcomm, in announcing its acquisition of Autotalks, stressed that the deal was supported by carmakers and parts makers, including Volkswagen, General Motors, Renault, Continental and Samsung's Harman International. However, the deal was also opposed by anonymous complainants, with foreign media saying that one of the complainants was the chipmaker MediaTek.
