On the evening of November 19 local time, the board of directors of artificial intelligence startup OpenAI sent a memo to employees saying that its former CEO Sam Altman will not return to his job as CEO, And named Emmett Shear, co-founder of video streaming site Twitch, as interim chief executive.
In the memo, the board said Schell "has the unique skills, expertise, and relationships to move OpenAI forward," adding that this is "the only way to advance and defend OpenAI's mission."
On the 17th, OpenAI announced that CEO Sam Altman would be leaving the company, and said that Altman's departure was the result of a thoughtful review process by the board, "his communication with the Board has not been consistently candid, hindering the Board's ability to perform its duties," and the Board no longer believes in his ability to continue leading OpenAI.
